Patent Connector 1.5: Japan, Taiwan and Australia
Patent Connector version 1.5.0 adds three new patent offices: IP Australia, the Japan Patent Office (特許庁), and Taiwan's Intellectual Property Office (經濟部智慧財產局, TIPO). Coverage now reaches across six jurisdictions and three rights - patents, trademarks, and designs - all from official office data, queried with your own API credentials. No scraping, no third-party aggregator.
Each office exposes a different slice of its register, so rather than claim uniform coverage, here is exactly what 1.5.0 adds per jurisdiction.
IP Australia
Australia is the broadest of the three additions. IP Australia covers all three rights end to end:
- Patent search and bibliographic lookup, with legal status
- Trademark search, status, and documents
- Design search, with images
Practical examples:
- "Search Australian patents for graphene battery electrodes filed since 2022"
- "What's the legal status of Australian patent application 2021901234?"
- "Find registered Australian trademarks for the word mark in class 9"
- "Show me the design registration drawings for this application"
Japan Patent Office (特許庁)
The JPO is a lookup-by-number source rather than a search engine - you bring a publication or application number, and Patent Connector returns the record. It is strong on the data that matters for family and status work:
- Patent bibliography, legal status, citations, and continuity (by number)
- Trademark status and documents
- Design search, with images
Patent retrieval here is by number, not keyword search, and there is no Japanese full-text or claims endpoint. Where it earns its place is international prior-art and family tracing: pull the JP member of a patent family, check its legal status, and walk the citations - without leaving the conversation.
Examples:
- "Get the bibliography and legal status for JP patent 2020-123456"
- "What does this Japanese publication cite?"
- "Look up the trademark status for this Japanese registration number"
Taiwan IPO (經濟部智慧財產局)
TIPO is also a lookup-by-number source, focused on patents and trademarks:
- Patent bibliography and legal status (by number)
- Trademark status and documents
There is no Taiwanese patent search, full-text, or design data in this release. Like the JPO, it slots in for status checks and family completion on a jurisdiction that is otherwise hard to reach from English-language tooling.
Examples:
- "Get the legal status of Taiwan patent number ..."
- "Look up the trademark status for this Taiwanese registration"

Available now
Patent Connector 1.5 is live. Add the relevant office credentials in settings, then reconnect your MCP client - most clients need a reload or restart to pick up the new tools. If you're new, sign up at patent.dev/patent-connector and follow the setup instructions.
What's next: patent cli 🚀
The most requested feature is a way to use this outside a chat client - in scripts, pipelines, and CI. A command-line version of Patent Connector, patent cli, is in the works, and I'm opening a private beta. If you'd like early access, email info@patent.dev
Patent Connector becoming the standard tooling for AI-assisted, first-hand patent information. There's nothing else out there with comparable breadth.
🤫 It'll also feature self-hosting as a server and an OpenAPI spec.
