Launch: EPO Technology Intelligence Platform

Launch: EPO Technology Intelligence Platform

The European Patent Office has introduced its new Technology Intelligence Platform, a ready-to-use solution based on Jupyter - a web-based development environment that integrates Python, Markdown, and Git. This platform aims to make it easier to process, analyze, and visualize data, ultimately turning raw information into valuable patent knowledge.

Why is this exciting?

The platform provides access to fantastic datasets like PatStat and EP-Fulltext. Additionally, it eliminates the need for users to set up their own infrastructure (e.g., installing Python and other dependencies). Best of all, it’s completely free!

What’s the catch?

I absolutely love the idea of democratizing access to patent insights, especially for those who aren’t professional software developers or data scientists. The potential to combine patent data with other datasets and extract actionable insights is massive. However, I wonder if the steep learning curve—requiring familiarity with Python, JSON, APIs, Markdown, Git, and more—might be a barrier for some users.
